Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon remains confident that Jalen Duren will represent the franchise during the upcoming NBA season, regardless of how his ongoing contract negotiations conclude.
Speaking at Monday’s media day, Langdon indicated that the organization expects the center to return, with the primary uncertainty surrounding which contractual option he ultimately chooses.
Duren has been offered a fully guaranteed five-year agreement worth $200 million, although he could instead accept a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The Pistons have also removed previously discussed weight-related conditions from their long-term proposal.
Langdon emphasized the importance of Duren’s contributions to Detroit’s recent progress, praising both his individual performances and his impact on the team’s success.
“We will be excited to have him in, regardless of what decision he does make,” he said.
“He was a huge reason for our success the last two seasons, had a tremendous season individually – last year as well. We believe he will do the same thing this year upcoming, and are excited to have him back when he gets back.”
