Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has confirmed that three positions in the team’s starting lineup remain undecided as training camp continues in Hawaii.
Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are expected to retain their starting roles, with Kerr emphasizing his intention to keep the longtime teammates together on the court as much as possible.
However, competition remains open for the other three positions, and the coaching staff has yet to settle on its preferred combination.
“For sure,” Kerr said. “Yeah, yeah. Nothing has been decided yet.”
Kristaps Porziņģis had been considered the likely starting center, but an ongoing health issue has kept him away from training camp.
Veteran Al Horford could fill that role, while Green represents another option. Nevertheless, Kerr would prefer to utilize Horford off the bench and limit Green’s minutes at center to reduce the physical demands on the veteran forward.
Gui Santos and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg are also competing for opportunities at forward, with the possibility of both players featuring together in a bigger lineup.
Meanwhile, the starting shooting guard position remains unsettled following Klay Thompson’s departure in 2024.
Brandin Podziemski and De’Anthony Melton are among the candidates under consideration.
Podziemski appeared in all 82 regular-season games last season, making 43 starts, while Melton played 49 contests and started 24 after making his season debut on December 4.
Golden State has six preseason games to experiment with different combinations before opening the regular season against the Los Angeles Lakers.
