Golden State Warriors guard De’Anthony Melton is not particularly concerned about whether he begins the upcoming NBA season in the starting lineup or comes off the bench.
Entering his ninth NBA campaign and third with Golden State, Melton emphasized that team success takes priority over his individual role.
The Warriors are currently evaluating several lineup combinations during training camp, with head coach Steve Kerr confirming that three starting positions remain available.
Melton is among the candidates competing for the starting shooting guard role alongside Brandin Podziemski, who appeared in all 82 regular-season games last season and made 43 starts.
Melton, meanwhile, played 49 games after making his season debut on December 4, earning 24 starts.
Despite the competition, the veteran guard believes Golden State’s depth provides the team with enough options to prioritize winning rather than individual starting assignments.
“Nah, I think for me it’s just, man, we got such a deep team,” Melton said. “It’s just about collecting wins and adding them up. And I think, end of the day, we want to see where we’re at in April. … So for me, it doesn’t really matter. I think I just want to collect as many wins as possible.”
Curry and Green are currently the only players with clearly established starting roles, leaving Kerr and his coaching staff several decisions to make over the remainder of training camp and six preseason games.
