Tyrese Maxey is embracing the challenge of integrating the Philadelphia 76ers’ new-look roster, emphasizing sacrifice, chemistry and consistency as the team prepares for the 2026-27 season.
The 76ers made major changes during the offseason, adding LeBron James and Jaylen Brown while also signing Anfernee Simons and Dean Wade. Philadelphia will now enter the season with Maxey, James, Brown and Joel Embiid as the centerpiece of a roster that has undergone a dramatic transformation.
Maxey acknowledged that the group still has plenty to prove once it begins playing together.
“Yeah. We haven’t gotten on the court yet, so we’ll see,” Maxey told Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints. “But as far as the chemistry off the court, guys are communicating, guys are having a good time doing it, guys are really pumping each other up, and guys are also willing to sacrifice.”
For Maxey, that willingness to sacrifice will be particularly important given the amount of offensive talent Philadelphia now has on its roster. The 76ers will have several players accustomed to significant roles, making how they share responsibilities an important part of the team’s development.
Maxey said the group has already discussed what it needs to do once training camp and preseason action begin.
“So when we step on the court, we have to kind of embody all those things that we’ve been talking about, sacrificing, coming together as one, and going out there competing every single night,” Maxey said. “Those are the three things that we really have to focus on.”
Maxey enters the season as one of Philadelphia’s established stars after producing a career-best 28.3 points per game during the 2025-26 campaign. He also averaged 6.6 assists and shot 36.7% from three-point range while starting all 70 of his appearances.
The 76ers finished 40-42 last season, but their offseason completely changed the outlook of the roster. Philadelphia traded Paul George and future draft capital to Boston for Brown, signed James to a two-year minimum-salary contract and added Simons on a two-year deal.
Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists for Boston last season and earned All-NBA Second Team honors. James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists for the 76ers in 2025-26, while Embiid posted 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 38 games.
The supporting cast also includes VJ Edgecombe, who averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists as a rookie, along with Simons and Wade.
Despite the star power, Maxey is stressing patience rather than immediate results.
“It’s going to be one day at a time. One day at a time, one step at a time,” he said. “There’s going to be some good days, there’s going to be some bad days, but at the end of the day we always want to be stepping in the right direction to come playoff time.”
