Michael Porter Jr. says he wants to stay with the Brooklyn Nets beyond next season as the franchise continues building toward future playoff contention.

The veteran forward is entering the final season of the five-year contract extension he originally signed with the Denver Nuggets before being traded to Brooklyn last offseason.

Porter becomes eligible for another extension this summer and made it clear he hopes his future remains with the Nets.

“I see what we’ve got in the young dudes. I see we have the most money to spend,” Porter said.

“I think we’ve got the most. We’re the youngest team. Kind of like Oklahoma City – it took them a while to get good. I think that’ll be how it is here. But I’m with it. I want to stay in Brooklyn.”

Brooklyn enters the offseason with major financial flexibility, as the team is projected to have between $44 million and $50 million in cap space available.

That could position the Nets as one of the league’s most aggressive teams in free agency or the trade market this summer.

The franchise may also feel increased urgency to improve quickly because it does not control its own 2027 first-round draft pick.

That situation could motivate the front office to pursue immediate roster upgrades in hopes of competing for a playoff spot next season.

Porter believes the Nets can follow a development path similar to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who spent several seasons rebuilding before emerging as one of the NBA’s top young contenders.
