Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman says his team is ready for the Greek League Finals against Olympiacos, while acknowledging the quality of their rivals.
“Of course, we respect Olympiacos because so far they have had a great season in the Greek League and in the EuroLeague. They won the EuroLeague also. They have great players, a great coach and they play great basketball. But we are also ready for this final,” Ataman said.
The veteran coach pointed to Panathinaikos’ Greek Cup final victory over Olympiacos when both teams were at full strength.
“This season, in the last part of the season, when we played with a full roster against Olympiacos, with a full roster in the Cup, we took a clear victory in the Cup final.”
Ataman also minimized the significance of home-court advantage and stressed that Panathinaikos has moved on from its EuroLeague disappointment.
“Now we want to win the Greek League. We forget the EuroLeague because you cannot survive when you win, and you cannot survive when you lose. This is sport. You must always think about the next step.”
The series begins Wednesday in Piraeus, with Panathinaikos aiming to reclaim the domestic title.
