WTA Rankings March 19, 2024: Navarro Top 20, Hsieh Back to Top of Doubles Rankings

Emma Navarro cracks the Top 20 in this week’s rankings, and she’s not the only American on the move.

American women made milestones in this week’s WTA rankings, and there were a few other major movements inside the Top 100.

Tennis Express

Navarro Makes Top 20 Debut

22-year-old Emma Navarro cracks the Top 20 for the first time after putting forth a breakthrough performance at Indian Wells. The former NCAA champion at UVA climbs three spots to No.20, thanks to her quarterfinal appearance that featured a three-set victory over No.2-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in the California desert.

Iga Swiatek Stretches Her Lead, Takes Over Race

Four-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek moves to the top of the Race to the WTA Finals thanks to her stunning run to the BNP Paribas Open title, which saw her drop just 21 games (fewest since 1994) in six matches – an average of just 3.5 games lost per round.

The 22-year-old Pole enters her 95th week at No.1 and stretches the gap in the singles rankings, between herself and Aryna Sabalenka, to 2520 points.

Kostyuk Career High

21-year-old Marta Kostyuk clicks a career-high after reaching the semifinals at Indian Wells. The Ukrainian jumps six spots to No.26 – a career-high. Kostyuk, who reached the Australian Open quarterfinals, is up to No.8 in the race this week (+9).

Osaka, Wozniacki, Kerber Rising

It was a big week in the California desert for a trio of moms. Caroline Wozniacki, Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka all made significant jumps in the rankings after notching important wins at Indian Wells.

Kerber reached the round of 16 and jumps from 607 to 342; Osaka reached the round of 32 and jumped from 287 to 229; Wozniacki reached the quarterfinals and rises from 204 to 129.

Baptiste Top 100

American Hailey Baptiste becomes the fifth WTA player to make her Top 100 debut this season. The 22-year-old D.C. native, who qualified and reached the second round at Indian Wells, rises from 105 to 96.

Hsieh Returns to the Top

38-year-old Hsieh Su-Wei begins her ninth stint atop the WTA doubles rankings after claiming the Indian Wells doubles title with Elise Mertens. Hsieh, into her 49th week at No.1, supplants her Belgian partner at the top of the rankings.
