A lip reading expert has revealed the furious message Erling Haaland is claimed to have said to Arsenal‘s Gabriel Magalhaes in the wake of Sunday’s match in north London.
The Gunners thrashed Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium to move six points behind league leaders Liverpool. Haaland netted City‘s only goal but was largely anonymous across the 90 minutes, due in part to excellent defending from Gabriel.
The Brazilian and City’s No.9 have been involved in several tense exchanges in the past. Haaland threw the ball at the back of Gabriel’s head before running off when celebrating a last-minute City equaliser against the Gunners in September.
Gabriel was then seen shouting in Haaland’s face after an Arsenal goal on Sunday. The Norwegian went on to engage with him post-match, pointing to his golden Premier League winners badge, which signifies the club’s status as champions.
Using her lip reading expertise, Nicola Hickling has explained via Jeffbet, what the Norwegian may have said. “Don’t forget it,” Hickling claims was Haaland’s message.
“Look at it,” he is said to have added while pointing to the Premier League winner’s badge. “Don’t forget it. You’d love this, eh? Don’t forget it, yeah.”
The rivalry between both clubs has grown in recent seasons, with Arsenal having been City’s closest title challengers. Mikel Arteta‘s side have finished runners-up to Pep Guardiola’s team in each of the past two seasons, but look set to finish above them for the first time since 2016.
Arsenal are currently nine points clear of City after 24 games, with Guardiola’s side also 15 points behind Liverpool and almost certain to concede their crown after four seasons.
“We need to continue doing the things that we can control,” Arteta said when asked about the title race after Sunday’s victory. “Today was a difficult game for us, and we still managed to do it.”
