UEFA have confirmed fixture details that could affect both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the weeks ahead.
Both the Blues and Spurs are competing in Europe in the second half of the season and have last-16 ties on the horizon. Chelsea will face FC Copenhagen in the Conference League, while Tottenham will take on AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.
The first leg of the last-16 ties in both competitions are scheduled to take place on March 6. UEFA have confirmed that, in the event that both Chelsea and Tottenham progress to the quarter-final of their respective tournaments, then a fixture change will be forced to happen.
As things stand, both Chelsea and Tottenham would face home fixtures in the first leg of their quarter-final ties, provided they get past Copenhagen and Alkmaar, respectively. The Blues’ quarter-final first leg at Stamford Bridge would be played on April 9, while for Spurs, their Europa League quarter-final first leg would take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the same day.
As a result, UEFA have confirmed that, in the event that Chelsea reach the quarter-final of the Conference League and Tottenham progress to the last eight of the Europa League, then the Blues would see their home and away legs reversed. This would mean that Chelsea would play away to either Molde or Legia Warsaw on April 9 before returning to Stamford Bridge a week later on April 16.
UEFA have also confirmed that this situation would also apply if both Chelsea and Tottenham reach the semi-final of the Conference League and Europa League, respectively. However, if Spurs were to get knocked out by Alkmaar in the last-16, then the scheduling for Chelsea’s future Conference League ties would be unchanged.
