Ty Lawson was arrested in Colorado after allegedly stealing a bottle of vodka from a store in Castle Rock, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX31.
Police said the incident occurred on July 16 after a store owner reported that a man walked into the business, took a bottle of Tito’s Vodka and left without paying.
According to the affidavit, the man drank from the bottle before heading to a nearby restaurant, Scileppi’s.
The store owner told officers she saw the man stumbling and believed he was intoxicated. She later spotted him sitting at the restaurant’s bar with the bottle.
Authorities identified the suspect as Tywon Lawson, who now faces a shoplifting charge involving property valued at less than $300.
A friend who was holding the bottle was briefly detained but released after police determined he was not involved in the alleged theft.
Lawson was booked into the Douglas County Jail.
Selected 18th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft, Lawson spent six seasons with the Denver Nuggets after his draft rights were acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He later played for the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers during an eight-year NBA career.
The 38-year-old was once considered one of the league’s top point guards, receiving Sixth Man of the Year consideration in 2010-11 and earning MVP votes following the 2012-13 season.
