
Tottenham have been drawn against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League round of 16. Ange Postecoglou and his Spurs players discovered their European fate on Friday afternoon when the draw was made at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
As Spurs were one of eight seeded teams in the round of 16 draw, they will crucially have home advantage in the second leg of their knockout tie. The first leg will be played at AZ’s AFAS Stadion.
Tottenham fans won’t have to wait too long for the north London club to return to Europe as the first leg takes place on Thursday, March 6. The second leg will then be played seven days later on Thursday, March 13.
Postecoglou’s side secured their place in the round of 16 after finishing fourth in the 36-team league table. Tottenham recorded victories against Qarabag, Ferencvaros, AZ Alkmaar, Hoffenheim and Elfsborg in their eight league phase games.
AZ set up a round of 16 tie against Tottenham after getting the better of Galatasaray in the knockout phase play-off round that has taken place over the past fortnight.
Now that they know their round of 16 opponents and route to the final, Spurs will be looking to make it all the way to showpiece finale in Bilbao on Wednesday, May 21.
