Tottenham flop Sergio Reguilon is a summer transfer target for Sevilla, it has been claimed. The 28-year-old is expected to leave Spurs at the end of his contract in June.
Reguilon had been frozen out during Ange Postecoglou’s time at Tottenham up until the start of December. After Destiny Udogie, Djed Spence and Ben Davies suffered injuries, Reguilon was handed a route back into the fold and made his return off the bench against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
He made his first start for Tottenham in two-and-a-half years at Tamworth in the FA Cup and also featured as a second-half substitute against Wolves, Newcastle and Leicester in the Premier League. However, with players returning to fitness, Reguilon has not played since Sunday, January 26.
And despite a resurgence from the 28-year-old, his long-term future still appears to be away from Spurs. Reguilon’s contract is up in the summer and he is not anticipated to sign fresh terms in north London.
With this in mind, Spanish outlet Orgullo Biri have reported that Sevilla are keen to re-sign Reguilon at the end of the season. The Spain international spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan in Seville, and the club are now keen to strengthen at left-back, with Reguilon at the top of their summer shopping list.
Besiktas and Galatasaray are among the others that are showing interest in Reguilon, but Orgullo Biri add that a return to former club Sevilla is ‘gaining momentum’.
Reguilon joined Tottenham for £32million from Real Madrid in September 2020 and established himself as a key member of the squad during his first two years at the club. However, the Spaniard fell down the pecking order under Antonio Conte and made the move to Atletico Madrid for the 2022/23 season.
He returned to Tottenham in the following summer after Ange Postecoglou’s appointment but remained an outcast. Having spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Manchester United, Reguilon joined Brentford in January 2024 on another loan, this time until the end of the season.
Reguilon’s loan at Brentford was all but his most successful one. He made 16 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side and cemented himself in the XI with Rico Henry out injured.
