Radu Dragusin has opened up on the struggles he is preparing to go through after seeing his season end prematurely. The defender has been ruled out with a long-term knee injury.
On Tuesday, after it was revealed that the club made an attempt to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and following the arrival of Kevin Danso on loan, it was confirmed that Dragusin would be having surgery. He is now likely to be out until the start of the 2025/26 season at the earliest.
Writing online, the 23-year-old said: “Football gives you incredible moments, but also challenges—some harder than others. Unfortunately, I now face one of those challenges: a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in my right knee.
“That being said, one of the many things I’ve learned from this sport is that behind every obstacle hides an opportunity to learn and grow. Football doesn’t just teach you how to win—it teaches you how to fight when things get tough. A difficult period lies ahead, but I will come back stronger, and I will work hard every single day during my post-surgery recovery to make that happen.
“Even though I won’t be able to be on the pitch with my teammates, I will support them with all my heart—both at Tottenham and with the National Team. I have no doubt that they will keep fighting with determination to achieve our goals.
“I want to thank you all for your messages of support after my injury—those mean a lot and give me even more motivation. Also, yesterday was a special day for me, and the overwhelming number of birthday messages I received truly surprised and touched me. Thank you all for your kind words!”
Dragusin will be replaced in the short-term by Danso, who’s move to North London will become permanent over the summer. Ange Postecolglou is currently working without Micky van de Ven as well but there is hope that he could be back in the side to face Liverpool later this week.
Ben Davies and Archie Gray are among those who have been covering for the injury-hit defence. Talks were carried out with Chelsea and Axel Disasi over a potential loan but he ended up joining Aston Villa on deadline day instead.
Dragusin missed Sunday’s 1-0 win over Brentford with injury but it was not made public just how serious it was until after the transfer window had closed. He suffered the issue during the Europa League victory at Elfsborg last week.
