The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed Cormac Ryan, according to an announcement from his agency, Priority Sports, on X. Ryan, an undrafted free agent from North Carolina, joins the Thunder after a strong college basketball career.
Ryan initially began his college career at Stanford, where he was the highest-rated recruit for the Cardinal. In his debut game for Stanford, Ryan scored 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist against Seattle.
During his freshman season, Ryan demonstrated his ability to compete against top-ranked teams. He scored 14 points against No. 7 North Carolina and 12 points in an overtime loss to No. 2 Kansas. His season-best performance came against UCLA, where he posted 19 points in a win for the Cardinal.
After one season at Stanford, Ryan transferred to Notre Dame. He redshirted his first year at Notre Dame, sitting out the entire 2019–20 season. Upon his debut with the Fighting Irish, Ryan was named a starter and contributed 13 points against No. 13 Michigan State.
In his second season with Notre Dame, Ryan delivered several standout performances, including a 28-point game in a win at Duke. That season, he averaged 9.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, earning 16 starts in 25 games played.
Ryan continued to be a key player for Notre Dame, helping the team advance to the Round of 32 in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. He recorded a career-high 29 points against Alabama, helping Notre Dame secure a spot in the tournament’s second round.
Ryan completed his time at Notre Dame by averaging 12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in his redshirt senior year. After his time with the Fighting Irish, Ryan used his extra year of eligibility to transfer to North Carolina for the 2023–24 season.
At North Carolina, Ryan contributed consistently, starting 34 out of 36 games. He averaged 11.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. In his final season, Ryan recorded notable performances, including a 31-point game against No. 9 Duke.
