Men’s Soccer Shutout by Falcons in Conference Play

FITCHBURG, Mass — Men’s soccer took on Fitchburg State in conference play Saturday afternoon in Fitchburg. The Buccaneers lost to the Falcons, 3-0, still in search of their first conference win this season.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Senior captain CJ Vincent and junior Ryan Soughou led the Bucs in shots and shots on goal with three shots each and both had two on target.
  • Brody Calvert took two shots, one of which was on goal. 
  • Freshman goalkeeper Kaden Winter made 10 saves and allowed the three Fitchburg goals.
  • In total, Maritime took 11 shots, six on target, and had two corner kicks in the loss.

Fitchburg State

  • Francesco Campione, Zachariah Foster, and Kaio Fialho each scored a goal for the Falcons in the win.
  • Goalkeeper Luke Speers made six saves and kept a clean sheet in the match.
  • In total, the Falcons took 21 shots, 13 on goal, and had four corner kicks in the game.

How It Happened

Fitchburg opened the scoring early into the conference matchup with Maritime getting their first goal in the 11th minute from Campione. Late in the first half, the Falcons added their second goal when in the 45th minute, Foster scored to put the Falcons ip 2-0 at the halftime break.

Maritime had their opportunities in the second half though they were unable to erase the deficit. Then, in the 78th minute, Fialho scored to bring the score to 3-0, the eventual final score.

The Buccaneers will play a non-conference match against Gordon College on Wednesday, October 11th, in Wenham, MA at 7pm.
