Men’s Soccer Outshoots Salem in Tight Conference Loss to the Vikings

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass — Maritime men’s soccer played host to the MASCAC leading Salem State Vikings o nFriday night at home in conference play. Though the Bucs outshot the Vikes, Salem State got the best of the Buccaneers taking the three MASCAC points by a 1-0 final.

Maritime

  • CJ Vincent and John Burke led Maritime in shots with four each. Vincent had two shots on target, Burke had one.
  • Goalkeeper Kaden Winter made four saves and allowed the Salem State goal.

Salem State

  • Walaeddine Hounane scored the only goal of the game for Salem.
  • Three players for the Vikings each had three shots.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers controlled the early part of the first half in their attacking third and could not find their way through. The game remained scoreless until the 35th minute when Hounane broke through on a ball from the back line that sprung him at midfield. He dribbled in and shot the ball into the bottom left corner for the goal. Salem led 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, Maritime outshot Salem 14-3 and were on the attack for more of the second 45 minutes. Unable to score and take a point or more from the match, Maritime fell to the Vikings in a close 1-0 conference matchup.
