Daniil Medvedev went all-in on trying to capture the Australian Open title in January. Now the Russian is in need of recovery time.
The World No.3 announced that he won’t be defending his Rotterdam title next week, due to fatigue, particularly in his right foot.
“Unfortunately I have to pull out of Rotterdam,” the Russian said in a statement. “After an incredibly tough and long run in Australia my body (and especially my right foot) is not recovered enough yet to come defend my title.
According to Medvedev’s agent, the 27-year-old does plan to defend his titles in Doha and Dubai later this month.
Jannik Sinner will become the top seed in Rotterdam in Medvedev’s absence.
