The New York Knicks have waived forward Marcus Morris Sr. and forward Chuma Okeke, both of whom were signed to non-guaranteed training camp contracts. This decision comes as the Knicks finalize their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Morris was signed to an Exhibit 9 contract, typically used for veteran players to provide injury protection for teams during training camp. After being waived, he will re-enter unrestricted free agency upon clearing waivers.
The veteran forward has had a productive NBA career, known for his toughness, shooting ability, and defensive versatility, and he will now look for new opportunities elsewhere.
Okeke, on the other hand, was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract. This type of contract allows teams the flexibility to either convert a player’s deal to a two-way contract or offer them a bonus if they join the team’s G League affiliate.
After being waived, Okeke will also re-enter unrestricted free agency upon clearing waivers. However, he remains a potential candidate to join the Westchester Knicks, New York’s G League affiliate, as an Affiliate Player, giving him a path to continue developing within the Knicks’ system.
With these roster moves, the Knicks are looking to maintain flexibility as they fine-tune their team heading into the season. Both Morris and Okeke, despite their release, could still find themselves back in the league or a developmental role soon.
