Brooklyn Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez discussed how he’ll go about deciding the team’s lineups for 2024-25 during Thursday’s preseason press conference.
(via Brooklyn Nets):
“One thing we want to do is create winning habits, and at the end of the day, as a coach and coaching staff is we’re going to have to put lineups together that play in a way that we can achieve the kind of shots we want to do. Defensively, how can we be very physical? Have ball pressure? So all those groups have to be balanced, and in my mind it’s not like I need to start certain guys just because. I’m not going to start… I’m giving you an example, a group of young guys. Because when you just give minutes to a young guy, if he didn’t earn it, I think it’s a mistake.
“Same thing as just because you’re a veteran, I have to give you minutes. For me, it’s a mistake. Now, if you’re a young player and you’re a veteran, if you work hard, you’re going to have the chance to play whether it’s starting or in the top ten, because I’m willing to play with ten, nine players. So it’s going to be a battle, it’s going to be competitive, and every single player will know that they have an opportunity to achieve their goals.”
