Dominic Solanke has hinted he is close to returning from injury as Tottenham prepare for a huge Premier League clash against Manchester City. The Spurs striker has been absent since mid-January after suffering a knee injury in training while attempting to take a shot.
Central defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have also been missing for a significant period, but Ange Postecoglou could have all three back very soon and in time for some very important games.
“The first European game [vs AZ Alkmaar next Thursday] I’d say outside chance for any of the three of them but certainly they’ll be back training fully by then and then we’ve got Bournemouth at the weekend and I reckon much better odds for that,” he said. “Definitely, by the second European game they should all be available to play.
“Dom’s the only one where we’ve got to be careful because he’s ahead of schedule so I don’t want to push that in case we need to pull the reins in a bit but with Romero and Micky that’s the plan at this stage.”
He added: “We’ve a little window where hopefully we can get something into them and have still got two European games and three league games between now and the international break so I really want them up and running by then.”
The absence of Solanke has impacted Spurs significantly but Mathys Tel’s arrival certainly helped matters. However, he has struggled to lead the line how Solanke was able to do for the first few months of his Tottenham career.
Thankfully, the 19-year-old looks set to soon have some pressure taken off his shoulders and the chance to be trialled in other positions with Solanke dropping a big injury return hint on social media. He captioned an Instagram post: “Tick Tock.”
For the visit of City to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium however, Solanke will be watching from the sidelines but it clearly won’t be much longer until he is back in the matchday squad.
