Devin Vassell is currently participating in non-contact basketball activities as he continues his recovery from a stress reaction in his right foot. While he is making progress, Vassell is expected to miss the start of the 2024-25 NBA season.
San Antonio Spurs plan to provide an official update on his status by November 1, at which point a clearer timeline for his return may be available.
His current rehabilitation program is focused on gradually reintroducing him to basketball activities without risking further injury.
Last season, Vassell played in 68 games before missing the final eight games due to a foot injury that ultimately required surgery. Despite the setback, Vassell had a breakout season, showcasing his offensive versatility and growing importance to the Spurs.
He averaged 19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while playing 33.1 minutes per game, establishing himself as a key contributor for San Antonio on both ends of the floor. Known for his smooth shooting and defensive capabilities, Vassell has become a cornerstone of the Spurs’ young core.
As Vassell enters Year 1 of his five-year, $146 million extension with the Spurs, the team remains optimistic about his long-term impact. The Spurs are taking a cautious approach to his recovery, aiming to ensure that he returns fully healthy and can play a pivotal role in the team’s future success.
While his absence at the start of the season may be a short-term challenge, the franchise is confident that Vassell will be back on the court soon, continuing his upward trajectory as one of the Spurs’ most promising young talents.
