David Stockton has reached an agreement with the Phoenix Suns on an Exhibit 10 contract, according to a league source via Keith Smith of Spotrac.
This type of contract often serves as a pathway for players to join an NBA team’s G League affiliate, and in Stockton’s case, it looks likely he’ll soon be joining the Suns’ newly established G League team, the Valley Suns.
The Valley Suns acquired his returning player rights in a trade just a day prior, positioning Stockton for a role with the team. If Stockton remains with the G League squad for at least 60 days, he becomes eligible for a bonus of up to $77.5K.
Stockton, now 33, has built a substantial career in the G League since his time at Gonzaga ended in 2014.
His NBA experience is limited but noteworthy, having appeared in three games with the Sacramento Kings during the 2014/15 season and another three games with the Utah Jazz in 2017/18.
Beyond the G League, he’s also spent time playing internationally, with stints in Croatia, New Zealand, Germany, and Puerto Rico.
His most recent shot at the NBA came in 2021 when he signed an offseason deal with the Indiana Pacers, though it didn’t lead to a regular-season spot.
As it stands, the Suns’ offseason roster includes 20 players, meaning no immediate roster adjustments are required to add Stockton.
This Exhibit 10 deal gives Stockton another opportunity to prove himself and potentially work his way back to the NBA while helping to solidify the roster for Phoenix’s G League affiliate.
