According to a fresh report, Chelsea have finalised a loan agreement for Carney Chukwuemeka to move to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.
As of Saturday, February 1, football.london understood the Blues were in receipt of an offer from Dortmund to loan the 21-year-old, with his exit always possible this month. Chukwuemeka had arrived for £20m as an exciting prospect from Aston Villa in August 2022 but by the present day in this period of great change at Stamford Bridge, has ultimately failed to force his way into Enzo Maresca’s side.
The midfielder has only played five times this season totalling 130 minutes of action, and in two-and-a-half years has totalled 32 appearances with only two goals and one assist. Now, Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea and Dortmund have come to an agreement for a short-term loan.
Importantly for the club, it looks to be a favourable agreement based on this report. Chelsea are to receive a loan payment, the German side are due to cover his entire wage packet for the period and there is said to be an option to buy included that is higher than the £40million buyout fee set into his three-year contract.
A medical is supposedly scheduled for Monday as both clubs race to beat the winter deadline. In December, Enzo Maresca had answered a question on the futures of players in his squad that were not experiencing the opportunities others were getting.
The boss said: “There are players that unfortunately didn’t play a lot with us in all the competitions, like [Ben] Chilwell, like Carney.
“Probably they’re the first that will want to leave because they work every day because they want to play. If they don’t play probably they are thinking to leave. Each player has a different situation so we’ll see if anyone knocks the door and says I want to leave. We’ll try to find a solution.”
Whilst the UK’s transfer deadline passes at 11pm, in Germany all business must be concluded by 8pm local time, therefore meaning 7pm in London.
