Manchester United continued their commitment to utilise winger Alejandro Garnacho ahead of deadline day despite interest from Chelsea.
The Blues were heavily linked with Garnacho as they looked to replace Mykhailo Mudryk following his failed drugs test. Napoli were also interested in the Argentine and submitted a £40m bid for the winger which was promptly rejected by United.
Since then, Chelsea have cooled their interest slightly in Garnacho but football.london understands that the Blues’ recruitment department have not ruled out a late offer to the United winger. That being said, his current manager Ruben Amorim has shown no signs that he wants to let him leave.
On Sunday, Garnacho played the full 90 minutes as United lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford as the forward continues to work hard for the Portuguese. With Marcus Rashford due to leave for Aston Villa before the window slams shut, Garnacho may now be off limits entirely.
Speaking after the victory over FCSB in midweek, Amorim hailed Garnacho for his attitude in another hint that he wants the Argentinian to stay in Manchester. He told the media: “He changed right away since that game from City [where Garnacho was dropped].
“The way he understands things and understands that I just want to help him. I just want to win games.
“The approach when we talked with him. He changed in everything.
“The way he recovers. He understands that sometimes I am a different coach, that I am demanding in my way and sometimes it is hard to make the first impact because he is a different kind of coach.
“He understands that he is never in a bad way. It is always for him.
“But I am a different person. I think all the merit is for Garnacho.
“He is improving and we want to continue to improve with Garnacho. He understood the position, the moments of playing inside and outside.”
The January transfer window closes on Monday, February 3 at 11pm (UK time).
