David Seaman believes there is a chance that Kepa Arrizabalaga will end up back at Chelsea to replace under-fire No.1 Robert Sanchez.
Despite the huge amounts of money spent at Stamford Bridge, many believe the Blues still need to sign a top quality goalkeeper. Sanchez, 27, has so far retained the trust of Enzo Maresca, but he followed up his mistake against Wolves with another glaring error in the recent 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Chelsea also signed Filip Jorgensen in the summer and loaned out last season’s hero Djordje Petrovic to Strasbourg in the summer. Jorgensen could now get the nod between the sticks for Monday’s visit from West Ham, while forgotten man Arrizabalaga has impressed on loan at Bournemouth.
The Spaniard, who arrived from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018 for a record breaking £71.6million, remains on the books while playing at the Vitality Stadium. Considering Sanchez’s error strewn season, which has already seen him make five mistakes directly leading to goals this year, Seaman thinks in-form Arrizabalaga may get another chance later this year with the west Londoners.
Speaking about Arrizabalaga on the Seaman Says podcast, brought to you by Betway, the Arsenal and England legend said: “He’s come back, and he didn’t have the best of times when he first went there, but he’s showing people what he can do (at Bournemouth). He is capable of that.”
The situation between the sticks is one few Chelsea fans would have envisaged. Maresca has constantly lent his backing to Sanchez, but also admitted the ex-Brighton and Hove Albion shot-stopper needs to raise his level.

He was caught horribly off his line when he tried to sweep up a through ball against Manchester City. His ill-advised charge up the pitch resulted in Erling Haaland picking up the ball and lifting a simple finish over his head.
While it was obvious that Sanchez should not have left his goal-line, Seaman also spotted another error which highlighted the keeper’s poor decision-making.
The ex-England goalkeeper said: “The only thing with Sanchez is, he’s brilliant with his feet and he makes some really good saves, but he proper throws them in.

“His decision to come out to get the through ball from Haaland was shocking, but then the way he tried to recover when Haaland went to chip it over him.
“Watch his dive – he guesses and dives to his right. If he stands up, because he’s a big guy, and stands still and waits for the ball, he saves it. But because he’s gone early, he’s tried to do a top-hand and hasn’t got anywhere near it.”
