How It Happened

The Buccaneers controlled the first 15 minutes of the game, rattling off a handful of shots and nearly scoring on two Calvert shots early in the match. Then, with 10 minute left in the first half, Ortiz found the back of the net on a pass from Arguelles inside the box to give the visitors a 1-0 lead that they carried into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Buccaneers went down to ten men after Ethan Somers received his second yellow card in the 58th minute. That didn’t stop the Bucs from getting back into the game as Calvert scored his first career goal on a pass over the Pride defense from Burke. Calvert dribbled the ball into the bottom right portion of the net to tie the game at 1-1 with just over 20 minutes left. The Buccaneers had grabbed back the momentum in the match and took advantage of the Regis defense. After a missed penalty by Vincent, CJ got redemption on a pass into the box to the head of Cooley who buried the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute. Maritime held on for the final 10 minutes and defeated the Pride by a 2-1 final at home in their season opener.
