Arsenal and a new striker is a news agenda that just will not go away. The Gunners have scored 29 goals in the Premier League this season, but that is fewer than four other teams in the division.
The Gunners‘ top goalscorers are Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, who both have five in the Premier League. Saka always has a huge weight on his shoulders at the start of every season despite not playing through the middle. Havertz, meanwhile, has only scored once in the last two months.
The goals have been spread around the team, but a top goalscorer would surely help them in their quest to win the Premier League title. The likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Dusan Vlahovic have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the past, but all will command a big fee.
The most expensive of the lot is sure to be Newcastle United’s Isak, as the only one of the above with Premier League experience. He is likely to cost upwards of £100million, with £115million even mooted as the price tag to sign him.
That would make a move to north London highly unlikely in January, or even next summer. But the Gunners have been warned there is another club who should be in the market to sign Isak – Liverpool.
Speaking to Casino Apps, former Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant said: “I think Liverpool should be looking at signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle in January. He scores every time he plays against Liverpool since he’s joined! Not only that, but he’s also a proven goalscorer and is a real handful for defenders.
“His movement is great, he’s quick and can bring in other players as well. He has all the attributes of fantastic number nine.
“I think Liverpool should cut their losses with Darwin Nunez. He cost so much money and is up there with one of Liverpool’s highest-paid players. He’s just not giving Liverpool what they paid for – yes, he works his socks off and the fans love him, bringing something different to the team, but ultimately you want goals.
“Especially for that price tag, you expect returns to justify that fee, I think after this season – which is his third – we’re not going to see any improvement in the fourth or fifth. This is it now, this is the final product of Darwin Nunez. No disrespect to him, but he’s not on the level as a player that Liverpool are as a team.”
