Renee Slegers being appointed the Arsenal women’s head coach after the departure of Jonas Eidevall was a massive change for the side, especially after the tricky start to the campaign. Certainly, the damage has been done in terms of the title race, but there are still hopes in the Women’s FA Cup and Champions League.

That, however, has not stopped Slegers and the club begin making key decisions for the future. The announcement that club captain Kim Little would be staying at the club for at least another season after it was agreed to exercise the one-year option in her contract.

Now 34, Little is definitely one of the most senior members of the group and while the squad and even the head coach has been changing, she has remained consistent for the side and an important part of the squad. Speaking upon the announcement of the deal, Little highlighted her longevity pulling on the red and white.

“I’m delighted to extend my contract and play another year with Arsenal,” said Kim. “It’s quite unique to play for a club for the length of time I have, and I don’t take that for granted. That time brings many special moments, and I look forward to making a few more of them.”

Slegers also said: “We’re delighted that Kim will continue to lead our team and represent our club. She’s a wonderful footballer and captain and has an important part to play in the goals we want to achieve. I’ve learned so much from working with Kim and am looking forward to that continuing as we aim to win trophies together.”

Next season there will be hope that runaway leaders Chelsea can be caught and having Little in the side to help, well everything counts.
