Arsenal have confirmed they spent a net sum of £20.9m on player incomings and outgoings in the 2024 summer transfer window.
In their accounts, which were published on the Companies House website on Friday, February 21, the North London club confirmed they had spent £135m less on players this past summer than in the previous year. Arsenal supporters will be unsurprised to hear that the Gunners have spent less this year than last.
In 2023, Mikel Arteta spent big to try and drag themselves closer to Manchester City in the Premier League title race. Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber were among those bought by the club while sales were limited with Florian Balogun being their most lucrative departure.
This season, the focus has been on recouping some of that money spent two years ago. Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe’s departures were seen as good deals as academy graduates, meaning they represent pure profit in the accounts.
Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino and David Raya’s arrivals, while expensive were relatively a lot cheaper than the previous year. Having spent such a vast amount less in 2024, Arsenal supporters would be forgiven for thinking that their club will return to the transfer window strongly in the summer to try and win that elusive first Premier League title for Arteta.
However, football.london understands that while the finances are there to make moves, there is no guarantee that they will spend up to the line and potentially hinder their financial position for the 2025/26 season. It is stressed that Arteta will receive financial backing to make his team stronger.
The priority at Arsenal is to remain well within the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules to avoid any season-altering penalties and charges.
