Angel Gomes announces huge transfer decision amid Tottenham links and summer plan

Angel Gomes has just made a huge decision with another of those likely to follow this summer amid transfer links to Tottenham and former club Manchester United. The England international sees his contract at Lille expire at the end of the 2024/25 season – which has seen talk surrounding his future ramp up.

Having progressed through the Academy system at United, he left Old Trafford in 2019 – as a free agent – before signing a five-year contract with the French side. The final few months of that deal are now firmly on the horizon and it does not look as though an extension will be agreed.

As such, it is becoming safe to assume Gomes will be playing for a new team, in the next campaign, with several Premier League clubs interested. However, there is no guarantee he returns to England with an admission on that particular avenue made back in October when discussing potentially playing for United, once again.

“There’ll always be that sentimental soft spot, so of course it’d be difficult to say no,” he told The Times previously. “As amazing as that would be, after finding happiness abroad I know [playing in the Premier League] is not the be-all and end-all.”

Despite that, Spurs are keen on bringing the player to north London withtalks having been held over Gomes and Southampton ace Tyler Dibling, as per another report by The Telegraph. As the latter still has over two years remaining on his deal, it is far more likely Gomes makes the switch with a telling decision already made by the midfielder.

As announced on his Instagram, the 24-year-old has switched up his agent, and is now being represented by ROOF ahead of the summer transfer window. He was was previously signed to Gol International with Christopher Nkunku and Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski as two other recognisable names on their books.

Gomes has been impacted by injuries so far this season, but has insisted his focus remains on Lille even though he is expected to depart.

“I’m aware of clubs enquiring about my situation, but I’m now completely focused on Lille,” Gomes said. “I want to finish the season in the best way possible, and then we will see what happens. I’m focused on the present and not on negotiations.”
