Ange Postecoglou could consider triple Tottenham change vs Man City as Maddison leaves duo at risk

Tottenham are building some real momentum in the Premier League right now and that could stand them in good stead heading into Wednesday’s game against Manchester City. Previously beating Brentford and Manchester United either side of their FA Cup and Carabao Cup exits, Spurs hit Ipswich Town for four last Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are in confident mood right now and they will be intent on making it four successive league wins when Pep Guardiola and Co. visit the capital. Not only do Tottenham have the opportunity to make it four successive league victories, they also have the chance to really up the pressure on the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham in the battle for a top-half finish.

Fresh from Saturday’s win at Portman Road, the Spurs boss could look to switch things up for the visit of the champions. Here we take a look at the changes he could possibly make for Wednesday evening’s 7:30pm kick-off:

Pedro Porro for Destiny Udogie

Pedro Porro started on the bench against Ipswich Town last time out but there’s a fair chance he gets the nod from the off at home to Manchester City. The Spaniard should certainly feel more refreshed for having a breather and he may end up taking the place of Destiny Udogie, thus seeing Djed Spence move back across to the left.

As Udogie has just returned from injury and his appearance at Ipswich was his first start in 2025, Postecoglou may want to manage his player’s minutes.

James Maddison for Lucas Bergvall/Brennan Johnson

James Maddison is another who will very likely come into the team on Wednesday evening. Postecoglou quite clearly did not want to push him too much after his injury return at Portman Road on Saturday but he did come on later in the second half to register an assist for Spence’s goal.

It probably is just a question of who drops out to accommodate Maddison. One option would be to take the place of Lucas Bergvall in midfield and the other could see Brennan Johnson rested despite his double at the weekend.

If it is to be the latter, Dejan Kulusevski would move back into attack alongside Mathys Tel and Son Heung-min.

Yves Bissouma/Pape Matar Sarr for Rodrigo Bentancur/Lucas Bergvall

Postecoglou does appear to have an idea of his best midfield trio now, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Bergvall in there going on their regular starts of late. The boss does still have two great options on the bench in Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, who will be hoping they come in against Manchester City.

Sarr was a pivotal figure in the first meeting between the sides at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season after doubling Spurs’ lead with a curling effort from distance. Given Tottenham’s run of three successive wins in the league, Postecoglou may not want to switch things about and that could mean Bissouma and Sarr watch on from the sidelines again.

However, they are there if he wants to change the balance of midfield slightly.
