Alphonso Davies contract decision could scupper Arsenal Jamal Musiala transfer dream

Bayern Munich have announced that full-back Alphonso Davies has signed a new deal with the club, and it’s something that could be a blow to Arsenal’s transfer hopes.

The full-back was due to be out of contract at the end of the season, prompting talk over his future at the club. Arsenal were named as potential suitors to for the Canada international.

But he has now put pen-to-paper on a new deal that runs until 2030, and it’s not just his own future that it could have an impact on. Bayern star Jamal Musiala is out of contract at the end of next season, and is yet to agree a new deal with the German giants.

That has piqued the interest of clubs across Europe, who are keeping an eye on the situation of the 21-year-old. Back in September, the Mirror reported that Arsenal, along with Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid have been tracking the German international.

But Davies’ new deal at the Allianz Arena could help Bayern convince Musiala to make the same decision as his teammates, and deal a blow to those clubs showing an interest. Speaking last month, the 21-year-old admitted that he’d be happy to play alongside Davies, and fellow teammate Leroy Sane for the next few seasons.

“Phonzy and Leroy are both my closest friends,” he said. “They are great players and are very important to us. Let’s see what happens. But I would be happy to play with them for the next few years.”

It seems the feeling is mutual, with Davies telling the Bundesliga last month about being on the same wavelength as his teammate.

“Maybe when it comes to music taste we’re on the same wavelength,” he said. “Just being able to relate to each other on a different level is very special.

“I mean, he’s still young. He’s still learning. Obviously I look at him like a little brother and I think he looks at me as a big brother. We just have a dynamic that’s really good.”
