Alexander Isak set for £150m transfer audition that could have major impact on Arsenal move

Alexander Isak’s stock is high heading into the summer transfer window as several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal eye a move.

He is set for a transfer audition when Newcastle United visit Liverpool on Wednesday evening (8:15pm) which could have a major impact on the Gunners’ transfer hopes. Liverpool are also in the mix for the Swedish striker and Arne Slot has already made his feelings clear.

“It’s an understatement to say he’s in fine form,” Slot said ahead of the Premier League game. “I think he’s in excellent form. Also over there, it’s the team performance that will help us controlling him.

“The more ball possession we have, the easier it will be to control him. Although he’s definitely a threat on the counter attack as well. The good thing for us is we’ve got two centre-backs that are probably the best players to play against him.”

Newcastle however, have made their stance clear and do not wish to sell Isak, who has become one of the most sought-after forwards in the world. The Magpies have slapped a reported £150million asking price amid Arsenal and Liverpool’s plans to invest in their attack for next season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with Isak for a long-time after failing to bolster their ranks with an out and out goalscorer. Liverpool, who also have plans to revamp the top end of the pitch, will have the opportunity to watch Isak in action against them this evening.

Speaking about his future, Isak is keen to continue playing at the highest level. “Playing football at this level has always been a dream and probably the main dream that I’ve had,” he said. “Playing in the Premier League for a club like Newcastle with a fan base like they have here is extra special.”

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe has also made his feelings clear about not wanting Isak to leave. “Yeah absolutely, there’s no part of me or anyone at Newcastle that wants to let Alex go,” he said. “He’s very much part of our long-term plans. Personally, I don’t see that being an issue.

“I think he’s got unique skills and I think the challenge for us this season has been able to try and get him into the game as much as we can. Early season we weren’t doing that as a team or functioning particularly well for him. We’re seeing a return to his very best levels, highlighted by the goals he’s scoring really.”
