Chelsea will have to renegotiate with AC Milan if they want to secure a permanent transfer for Joao Felix this summer. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that the situation in Italy is a complicated one.
The Blues signed the Portuguese international for a reported £42million, making 20 appearances in all competitions and scoring seven times before joining AC Milan on loan until the end of the season. Romano claims there’s no option-to-buy deal agreed between the two clubs, with Felix struggling in Italy.
Romano claims Milan’s search for a new director of football will have a severe impact on talks with Chelsea regarding a permanent move for Felix, with it unlikely a deal can be agreed upon at this stage.
Romano told his YouTube channel: “Now someone who is on loan and left Chelsea in the January window is Joao Felix. He joined AC Milan in a loan deal, there is no buy option included. We remember what Zlatan Ibrahimovic said at the beginning of February, saying ‘if we want to find a solution, we feel we can do it we have an excellent relationship with Chelsea.’
“But guys, many things are about to change at Milan. The situation is really complicated. With the manager, the recent results have been really poor and there is a new expectation to bring in a new director of football very soon.
“Milan are going to change many things and the feeling, internally at the club, is that it’s going to really complicated to continue with Joao Felix. It’s not financially. It’s just because in his first 40 days, for Joao Felix at Milan, the situation has been really complicated for many players, not only for him we have to be honest. It’s not only Joao Felix.
“But the situation with Joao Felix has not been what they all expected, the player, the club, the results in general. Again, I’m not saying it’s Joao Felix fault, but the situation at Milan is really complicated. So for them to go now and negotiate with Chelsea, it’s not what Milan are planning to do.
“Again, lets wait for the new director. Because the new director, obviously together with the manager, will make a decision on Joao Felix. But the current feeling internally is they don’t imagine Milan going there and paying €40-45million for Joao Felix. Renegotiating or nothing.
“It will be up to the new director of Milan. The situation is not an easy one for Joao in Italy.”
