LeBron James could soon receive his own career-defining documentary, with ESPN reportedly closing in on an agreement to chronicle his final NBA seasons.
Industry sources say discussions are in their final stages, and if the deal is completed, production crews would follow James during his tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he is expected to finish his playing career.
Rather than focusing solely on the present, the project is expected to tell the story of James’ entire basketball journey by combining new footage with a vast archive collected over more than two decades, including unreleased video filmed since his rookie campaign.
Neither ESPN nor James’ camp has commented publicly on the reported negotiations, and no release date has been announced.
The 41-year-old recently joined Philadelphia on a two-year, $8 million contract in hopes of capturing a fifth NBA title.
The documentary will inevitably be measured against Michael Jordan’s The Last Dance, which became one of the most successful sports documentaries ever produced after its 2020 release.
While Jordan spent much of his career outside today’s nonstop media spotlight, James entered the national stage as a teenager and has lived through the rise of the internet, smartphones and social media, making his career one of the most documented in professional sports.
