The Golden State Warriors had an opportunity to pursue Jaylen Brown more aggressively but ultimately decided against paying the asking price, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Speaking on The Stephen A. Smith Show, Charania said Golden State and Boston discussed a deal around last season’s trade deadline before the Celtics eventually sent Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.
“The Warriors could have gotten in the Jaylen Brown sweepstakes if they wanted to give up four first-round picks in that range,” Charania said.
“They decided not to, from my understanding. Those two teams, the Warriors and Celtics, did talk about a Jaylen Brown trade around the trade deadline, and it was around several first-round draft picks and potential swap and seconds.
“The Warriors decided not to go down that route.”
Instead, Philadelphia acquired Brown, a move that later helped convince LeBron James to sign with the 76ers in free agency.
