LeBron James’ eight-year run with the Los Angeles Lakers will be remembered for much more than the numbers he produced.
When he signed in 2018, the Lakers were no longer championship contenders. James arrived to revive one of the NBA’s most iconic franchises, and within two seasons he had done exactly that.
Alongside Anthony Davis, he guided Los Angeles to the 2020 title inside the Orlando bubble while earning the fourth Finals MVP award of his career.
That championship became the high point of his time in purple and gold. The years that followed brought constant change.
The Lakers repeatedly retooled the roster, changed coaches and made aggressive moves in pursuit of another championship, with James remaining at the center of nearly every major decision.
Even as expectations grew, he continued adding milestones to an already unmatched résumé.
James became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, won the inaugural NBA Cup, surpassed 40,000 career points and later shared the floor with Bronny James, creating the league’s first father-son pairing.
His final seasons also reflected the franchise’s changing direction.
As Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves became larger parts of the Lakers’ future, James adjusted his role while continuing to produce at an All-Star level.
James leaves Los Angeles with one NBA championship, countless records and several unforgettable moments that will remain part of Lakers history.
His legacy in LA, however, extends beyond trophies.
