WESTFIELD, Mass — Thursday afternoon, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) announced their 2022 Football All-Conference Teams. Five Buccaneers have been voted on to the teams by the nine conference head coaches.

Named to the All-MASCAC 1st Team defense are senior Cornerback Cobey Williamson, senior Defensive tackle Mack Brown, and senior Defensive End Hugh Wells. Selected to the 2nd Team Defense is junior Punter and Linebacker Jack Mulligan. Named to the 2nd Team Offense is junior Wide Receiver Andrew Brightman.

1st Team Defense

Cobey Williamson racked up 30 tackles from his corner position in 2022 with 4.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, two interceptions and six pass breakups. Teams often gameplanned to throw to the other side of the field form where Williamson lined up on the field, especially after the season he had in 2021 where he made a MASCAC leading five interceptions. This is Cobey’s second consecutive All-MASCAC 1st Team selection.

Mack Brown tallied 31 tackles, a sack and eight tackles for loss this season, despite often being double or triple teamed by the offense. This is Brown’s second consecutive time being selected to the All-MASCAC 1st Team Defense.

Hugh Wells had a career year in his senior season tallying 57 tackles, which ties his career-high from 2021, a MASCAC leading 10 sacks, a career high, a MASCAC leading 20 tackles for loss, a career high and he had a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and his first and only career interception. He also broke up four passes and blocked a field goal on special teams. Wells gave offensive lineman fits his entire career and 2022 was more of the same. Hugh was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after the team’s win over Fitchburg, and was named MASCAC defensive Player of the Week after the Bucs win over Worcester. This is Wells first appearance on the All-MASCAC 1st Team Defense. He was named to the 2nd Team All-MASCAC Defense in 2021.

2nd Team Defense

Jack Mulligan came into camp in 2022 to find that the team was in need of a punter. The junior linebacker took over the punting duties and was outstanding this season averaging 41.8 yards per punt, second in the MASCAC, with a long punt of 66 yards and a MASCAC leading 19 punts inside the opponents 20 yardline. Though he made the All-Conference 2nd team as a punter he had an outstanding year on defense and other aspects of special teams with 21 tackles, a sack, four tackles for loss, and interception, three pass breakups and a blocked field goal. After his outstanding punting performance against Bridgewater State in the 43rd Annual Cranberry Bowl, Mulligan was named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week. This is Mulligan’s first selection to an All-MASCAC team.

2nd Team Offense

Andrew Brightman spent multiple games at the end of the season out due to injury and still had an impressive year as WR1 for the Bucs. In seven games in 2022, Brightman caught 27 passes for 462 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. He finished the season tied for fourth in the MASCAC in touchdown catches, was seventh in receiving yards and ninth in receptions. Brightman was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week following the team’s win this season over Fitchburg State. This is Andrew’s second consecutive selection to the MASCAC All-Conference 2nd Team Offense.

Congratulations to all five of our Buccaneer football student-athletes selected to the MASCAC All-Conference teams this season.
