Alexander Isak is said to be excited about transfer interest in him ahead of the summer window.
Barcelona are the latest side to reportedly have the Newcastle United striker on their list of possible signings during the summer transfer window. Arsenal have been credited with an interest in the Sweden international, as are Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
Isak scored his 27th goal of the season for club and country as Newcastle lost 2-1 at home against Brighton & Hove Albion in the fifth round of the FA Cup. The striker is also sixth in the race to win the European Golden Boot, behind only Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski, Mateo Retegui and Erling Haaland.
Barcelona-based Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo claims the Catalan club have Isak on their agenda as a replacement for Lewandowski. However, the publication also acknowledges Arsenal are looking for a goalscorer.
Man United are, by the same publication, described as desperate. However, they state Barcelona know Isak is ‘excited’ about interest from the La Liga leaders.
Newcastle notably signed Isak from Real Sociedad after spending three seasons playing in the Spanish top flight. The striker also previously spent two-and-a-half years in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, so knows Germany should Bayern make a move.
However, he is now halfway through his third season as a Premier League player and emerging as arguably the best centre-forward in England. Late last month, Isak became the seventh-fastest player to score 50 goals in the league, with only Haaland (48), Andrew Cole (65), Alan Shearer (66), Ruud van Nistelrooy (68), Fernando Torres and Salah (both 72) doing so in fewer appearances than Isak’s 76.
Notably, that is less than Sergio Aguero (81), Thierry Henry, and Kevin Phillips (both 83). It took 131 games for Gabriel Jesus to hit 50 – he now has 76 across 229 appearances – while Kai Havertz is only on 41 goals in 149 matches.
