Chelsea are enjoying a break from Premier League action as they wait to return to top flight duties.
The Blues went into the mini hiatus on the back of a 4-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League in midweek. The victory moved Chelsea up to fifth in the table as they continue their quest to secure a Champions League qualifying spot.
Due to Chelsea no longer being in the FA Cup this season, they will not be in action this weekend as they look to take advantage of a few days rest ahead of an important run of fixtures. The Blues will take on FC Copenhagen in the Conference League next Thursday before returning to Premier League duties against Leicester City next weekend.
In terms of the top flight, Chelsea are just one game away from one of their key players being on the sidelines. Moises Caicedo has proved his importance and value to the Blues this term, starting all 27 Premier League matches under head coach Enzo Maresca.
However, the Ecuador international is just one yellow card away from being handed a suspension in the Premier League this term. Caicedo has picked up nine bookings in the top flight this season, meaning one more would see him be forced to serve a two-match suspension in the top flight.
Players who pick up 10 yellow cards across their club’s first 32 Premier League fixtures will have to serve a two-match suspension. That will apply to Caicedo if he gets one more booking across Chelsea’s next five matches against either Leicester, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford or Ipswich.
If Caicedo can avoid getting a yellow card across the next five Premier League matches then he would avoid getting a two-game ban. The threshold will increase to 15 bookings for a suspension from the 33rd league match onwards.
