WTA Rankings: Swiatek Drops Out of Top 4 Ahead of Roland-Garros

This year’s Roland-Garros seeds will look a lot different than they did last year on the women’s side.

Eventual champion Iga Swiatek was seeded No.1 last year, but the Pole drops to No.5 in Monday’s WTA rankings, which will determine the seeds for next week’s French Open.

Swiatek moves outside of the Top-4 for the first time since the week of February 21st, 2022, when she was No. 8. The four-time Roland-Garros slid back from No.2, when she was passed by new No.2 Coco Gauff, No.3 Jessica Pegula and eventual champion Jasmine Paolini, who comes in at No.4.

That means that Swiatek could face any of the top four seeds as soon as the quarterfinals, which might make her attempt to win a fourth consecutive crown on the Parisian clay a little more difficult.

The Pole shouldn’t hang her head though. She was inside the Top-2 for 173 consecutive weeks, and held the top ranking for 125 of them.

At Roland-Garros, Swiatek is a combined 5-0 against the four players that will be seeded above her, but we all know that things have played out differently for Swiatek on the clay, where she will enter Roland-Garros without a title under her belt for the first time since 2020. Swiatek is 6-3 on the clay thus far this season.

Americans Peyton Stearns and Hailey Baptiste reached milestones this week.

After becoming the first player in history to win three consecutive matches via third-set tiebreakers, Stearns rises 14 places from No. 42 and makes her Top 30 debut at No. 28.

The biggest mover in this week’s Top 100 is 23-year-old American Hailey Baptiste, who qualified for Rome and reached the third round, The DMV native climbs 20 spots to a new career high of No. 70.
