Christopher Nkunku reportedly remains of interest for Bayern Munich amid uncertainty over his long-term future at Chelsea.
The 27-year-old has struggled to cement a regular spot in Enzo Maresca’s side this season and was heavily linked with an exit in the January transfer window. In addition to Bayern, Manchester United were also tipped to offer Nkunku a new lifeline but a move didn’t materialise in the end.
That was said to be because the Frenchman did not want to leave Stamford Bridge on loan, preferring a permanent move. Although a potential move to the Allianz Arena fizzled out last month, the German giants could approach Chelsea at the end of the season.
According to journalist Christian Falk, Bayern are ‘preparing’ for several summer sales including Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Bryan Zaragoza, who would all fetch the club over €100million (£83m).
Joao Palhinha and Raphael Guerreiro are apparently not deemed as ‘absolutely unsellable’ if the right offers are made. As per the report, Bayern have to sell to fund moves for players like Jamie Gittens and Nkunku.
The France international has featured 32 times for the Blues in all competitions, contributing with 13 goals and four assists along the way. Despite impressing in the Conference League, he has been underwhelming when called off the bench in the Premier League.
Last month, Maresca revealed the former RB Leipzig star had not expressed a desire to leave the club. “No, no. We didn’t speak about nothing with Christopher,” he said. “But the last time I said that [he will listen if a player tells him they want to leave], it’s because in the end, we want all the players, as we said before, to try to be happy; knowing the ones that are not playing, they are not happy.
“It is normal. I think also in this case, Christopher also wants to play and he wants to be happy. He’s 27, probably the oldest one. No matter the age, the players want to play and if they do not play, then they are not happy.”
Chelsea forked out £52m to sign Nkunku from RB Leipzig in 2023.
