Bernardo Silva makes honest Premier League admission as Man City give up title defence

Bernardo Silva has admitted that Manchester City’s quest to clinch a fifth consecutive Premier League title is likely to be hopeless, with his team lagging behind Liverpool and Arsenal.

Last season saw City etch their name into Premier League history by becoming the first club to secure four successive titles, with Liverpool the last team to finish above Pep Guardiola’s side.

But five years later, history looks set to repeat itself with Liverpool in pole position for a second Premier League title in 35 years as they sit seven points clear of Arsenal and 16 clear of City, having suffered just one defeat in 25 league games.

Guardiola’s side, meanwhile, have suffered seven defeats this term, with four of those coming in consecutive weeks at the start of November at the hands of Bournemouth, Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Now, before City’s Champions League Play-Off second leg against Real Madrid, Silva has conceded defeat in his side’s quest for the Premier League.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Silva said: “Knowing the Premier League is done for us, our goal is a completely different one right now. We know that if we stay in this competition, anything can happen.

“Of course the draw was not nice to play against Madrid, never easy, but we have the motivation of trying to do something in this competition, knowing it’s a special competition and difficult one.”
