Arsenal handed Matheus Cunha transfer instruction after Ollie Watkins decision made

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur may be put on red-alert amid claims that Wolves star Matheus Cunha reportedly has a £62million release clause and could leave in the summer – despite only penning fresh terms at the beginning of February.

The former Atletico Madrid attacker has emerged as a key player at Molineux, with his performances conjuring up speculation over a high-profile exit across the Premier League, with the Gunners and Manchester United rumoured to hold an interest during the winter transfer window.

According to the The Daily Mail, Cunha has a clause in his new deal which will allow him to leave for just over £60million after signing a fresh four-and-a-half year deal. In their report, they claim that Mikel Arteta’s side are joined by Spurs, as well as a host of English top-flight clubs to be monitoring his situation in the Midlands.

With the 25-year-old valued, seemingly, below market value for a top striker, it comes after Arsenal ‘failed’ to sign Ollie Watkins after registering a late interest in the England international. However, reports suggest that Aston Villa wanted for £60million, while Arsenal were reportedly only willing to pay £40million.

Following his new deal at the start of the month, Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs said: “The new contract is a reward for what Matheus has done, and symbolises his importance to us on the pitch.

“It is something that he’s earned because of everything he’s given us and will continue to give us.

“Matheus loves the club, he loves the fans and really appreciates the opportunity the club has given him. The fans have taken him under their wing, and he’s loved being here, so it’s been a really positive experience for both sides.

“His talents are undeniable and he’s a real winner. He wants us to achieve our goals now, and when a player of his quality shows he’s with you and up for the fight, it’s a big lift for everyone.

“Now he has to do what he’s been doing and even more. I expect him to knuckle down through the second half in this season, because we need everyone at it.”
