Fikayo Tomori shows true colours as ex-Chelsea defender makes huge Tottenham transfer ‘decision’

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major blow to their hopes of signing Fikayo Tomori according to the latest reports. The AC Milan defender has been linked with a move to the Lilywhites this month, as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his backline before the January transfer window slams shut on Monday night.

Tomori, who sees his contract at the San Siro expire in June 2027, has only featured 12 times in the Serie A this season. After starting six of the Rossoneri’s first seven games in the Italian top-flight, the 27-year-old fell out of favour under Paulo Fonseca, who has since been sacked.

Sergio Conceicao replaced his fellow countryman at the end of December, and Tomori quickly re-established himself as a key player. The England international has started three of Milan’s last four games in the Serie A, while also playing a crucial role in helping the Rossoneri defeat Juventus and Inter to win the Supercoppa Italiana.

Despite being thrown back into the limelight, Tomori still faces a somewhat uncertain future, attracting interest from Tottenham. However, according to Sky Italy, the former Chelsea defender has decided to stay at the San Siro after ‘advanced talks’ with Spurs.

The report states that Postecoglou wants to sign a defender before Monday evening’s deadline, and Tomori was one of a few options on the Lilywhites’ shortlist. Showing his true colours as a Cobham graduate, he snubbed the North London outfit.

Nevertheless, speaking to reporters on Friday, the Tottenham boss provided an update on Cristian Romero, who’s been nursing a muscle injury since December. Postecoglou said: “It’s just a slower healer with him and it is one we are looking at on a week to week basis.

“Again, he has been out for quite a while. Like with all the other long term ones, we are just taking our time,” added the 59-year-old, before addressing Spurs’ plan for the final days of the transfer window. Radu Dragusin appeared to pick up a knock during Tottenham’s 3-0 win over IK Elfsborg in the Europa League.

Postecoglou said: “I think depending on the extent of Radu’s (injury), it might be an area we need to look at and certainly this weekend (we are) exploring some options.”
