WESTON, Mass — The Buccaneers men’s soccer team opened their 2024 campaign on Saturday afternoon on the road against Regis College in non-conference play. Thanks to three goals from Brody Calvert, a goal and an assist by senior captain Quinn Kelly, and six saves, including a pivotal penalty kick denial, by Preston Joia, Maritime earned a 4-3 win over the Pride.

How It Happened
Regis opened the scoring in the season opener for both teams in the 27th minute with Comeiro scoring on a cross from Silva-Olivero to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage. Less than two minutes later, Calvert scored his first of the year to tie the game at 1-1 in the 29th minute on a ball he stole deep in Regis territory and beat the keeper to tie the game. The teams went to the break tied at 1-1.
In the second half, Calvert netted his second of the game in the 47th minute to give the Buccaneers their first lead of the game and the season. 20 minutes later, Calvert notched his second-career hat trick thanks to a pass from Kelly. The goal gave the Bucs a commanding two-goal, 3-1, lead. Kelly put his name on the scoresheet again in the 78th minute with a goal of his own, the first for him in 2024 and the second of his career, and extended the Maritime lead to three goals, 4-1. In the final five minutes of the match, Regis gave the Bucs a run for their money scoring in the 88th minute and 89th minute, both on penalty kicks, to bring the hosts within one goal, 4-3. The Buccaneers saw the game out to the final whistle and held on for the 4-3 win in their season opener.
