The 29-year-old Jabeur was set to face local favorite Robin Montgomery in her opening round singles match on Thursday night. Yet, Jabuer withdrew hours before the match due to a shoulder injury. Jabeur released a statement that was later posted on the tournament’s social media.
“I am writing to inform you that, regrettably, I must withdraw from the Mubadala Citi DC Open due to a shoulder injury I have recently sustained.
After consulting with my doctor, it has been determined that participating will aggravate my condition.

Jabeur defeated Montgomery 6-1, 7-5 last month in the second round of Wimbledon. A two-time Wimbledon finalist, Jabeur lost in the next round to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina.
Jabeur, earlier in the week at the event, did win a doubles match with Spain’s Paula Badosa.
It has been a difficult season for the 29-year-old Tunisian. She has also dealt with a knee injury, and carries a 16-13 overall record. She is currently ranked 16, her lowest ranking since the summer of 2021.
The next tournament on Jabeur’s schedule is the upcoming WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada.
