Dylan Dietrich is making a spectacular late-season surge on the ATP Challenger Tour.
The 22-year-old Swiss, currently the No. 1 ranked collegiate player in the nation, captured his second consecutive Challenger title on Sunday, rallying past Canada’s Liam Draxl, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the final of the MarketBeat Open in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Dietrich, a senior at the University of Virginia, has now won ten consecutive matches and compiled an impressive 18-3 record across his last five Challenger appearances.
“This one is special,” Dietrich said, according to the University of Virginia’s website. “It is even bigger than the one in Columbus because this was a 100. I haven’t played that many events this big.”
The Zurich native, who claimed his maiden Challenger title in Columbus on October 4, has enjoyed a meteoric rise up the ATP rankings. Ranked No. 556 on July 20, Dietrich has now cracked the Top 200 for the first time, rising 67 spots from No. 254 to No. 187 on the strength of Sunday’s triumph.
Dietrich, who plans to play collegiately for one more year at UVA, has gone 33-7 in pro events since June 1. He recorded his first ATP Top 100 win in the second round at Sioux Falls, defeating No.94 Jenson Brooksby.
After a difficult opening set against fifth-seeded Draxl, Dietrich found his rhythm on serve, holding all ten of his service games across the final two sets while facing just one break point.
He broke Draxl in the sixth game of the second set and the seventh game of the decider to secure the title.
Dietrich dropped just one set during his title run in Sioux Falls.
Draxl, a former University of Kentucky standout, was appearing in his second Challenger final of 2026 after finishing runner-up in Winnipeg in July. The 24-year-old Canadian, who saved two match points in his semifinal victory over Sebastian Dominko, rises from No. 194 to No. 166 in the ATP rankings.
He will next represent Canada in the Davis Cup quarterfinals against Czechia on November 24.
